The Science of PuriFibre
What is PHGG and Why Is It So Good for Your Gut?
Partially Hydrolysed Guar Gum (PHGG) is a gentle, natural fibre made from guar beans, and it’s great for your gut. PHGG acts as a prebiotic, meaning it helps feed the good bacteria in your digestive system, like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus. These friendly bacteria play a big role in keeping your gut healthy, regular, and balanced.
In a major 2021 review published in Nature, one of the world’s top scientific journals, PHGG was highlighted as a promising fibre for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Unlike some other fibres that can cause bloating or gas, PHGG ferments slowly, helping your body produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), as natural compounds that support gut health and reduce inflammation. PHGG can help relieve constipation or diarrhea, improve stool consistency and support a more balanced gut microbiome.
